On Sunday evening, December 3rd, our council enjoyed a lovely time at Cavaliers Country Club for our annual Christmas Banquet. Approximately 48 people were in attendance. The food was excellent. The fellowship even better.
Awards were presented to our Knight of the Year, Guy Boniface (pictured receiving his award with his wife Ann), and to our Family of the Year, Kevin, Lois & Eileen Duffy.
Also Sister Jo Ann McPolin was honored for her years of outstanding dedicated service to our church, school and community.
Very well deserved by all! Congratulations!

We opened with the shortest meeting in recorded council history, lasting just under 55 seconds, followed by a furious two rounds of bowling lasting 2 hours. Our burst of needed power was supplied by an endless stream of piping hot pizza.
In the end our Lady Champion was Susan Temple and our Sir Knight Champion was Tom Pollutri. Congratulations! Well done everyone, we had a great time!

Fish Fry 2015
Fish Fry #1 – 2/27/15
Fish Fry #3 – 3/27/15
Records are made to be broken. Attendance at the three 2015 Lenten Fish Fries was 1,633 people. Wow! And the 3/27/16 dinner alone set a new record at 561 attendees.
There are so many volunteer knights, family members and friends who cheerfully roll up their sleeves to make this event happen. With so much help, it is nearly as fun to work as it is to attend as these pictures attest. And the fish fry dinners complement the Lenten calendar of events at St. John the Beloved by concluding as the Stations of the Cross are beginning.
Souper Bowl Sunday Food Drive – 1/31/15 -2/1/15
The annual SJB KofC Souper Bowl Sunday Food Drive was held at all Masses on 1/31/15 – 2/1/15. This year, the weather for the Souper Bowl Sunday Food Drive was better than in past years. There was no snow, no wind, and the cold temperature was bearable. Parishioners kept food and financial donations for the Parish Outreach Food Pantry flowing in all weekend. Our knights were happy to assist getting these much needed supplies to the SJB food pantry. Thanks to the event chairman Joe Fassano and his family for organizing the event and for the coffee and donuts that kept energy levels high. Thanks also to the brother knights who volunteered their time and energy to work the event, and the SJB Youth Group who collected food at the 5:00 p.m. Sunday Mass and sorted the food afterwards. This year, the Athletic Association also contributed by collecting food items at the girls basketball tournament. Most importantly, thanks to food drive participants who donated the food items that help those in need.
March for Life Washington DC – 1/22/2015
Several of the knights from our council joined knights and parishioners from around New Castle County on buses from St. Mary of the Assumption in Hockessin to march in the March for Life in Washington DC. Petitions were also delivered to House Leader Boehner and Senate Leader McConnell.
Visits were also made to the all three Delaware legislators offices. Father Lewis and Father Dillingham concelebrated Mass at Mary, Queen of Missions Chapel in the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.
Breakfast of Champions – 12/5/14
The SJB Knights and Moms from the Home and School Association treated students and faculty to breakfast on Friday, 12/5/14, to honor those students who worked so hard to achieve high academic honors. The knights whipped up scrambled eggs, sausage, pancakes, muffins and fruit for the menu and the Moms served the meals. It was a great morning with lots of happy faces. The group had time afterwards for a few pictures.
2014 Parish Carnival
Knights’ Families Working the Carnival
Knights and their families volunteer each year at the carnival in many capacities. It starts with the knights working the parking detail from 5:30 p.m. until about 7:00 – 7:15 p.m., then they move to the carnival area and work booths or just kick-back, relax, and enjoy the fun.
Jim Walls’ Family Visit on Saturday 6/9/14
Knights and Carnival Crews were treated to a surprise visit by Jim and Marie Walls and their family on Saturday, 6/9/14. It was great to see them, and capped off a wonderful SJB carnival week. Jim has been the friendly voice on the phone arranging the volunteers for the carnival for 45 years. Jim clearly has a calling as a recruiter. His dedication to this event and charitable events in general is the “Essence of True Knighthood.”
Dedication and Blessing of the SJB Memorial to the Unborn
The St. John the Beloved Memorial to the Unborn was dedicated and blessed by Bishop Malooly on 5/22/14. The memorial was erected by St. John the Beloved Council 11796, and is the realization of a vision first proposed by brother knight Bob Dayett. A team of knights helped design the memorial and Chick Mealey arranged for the installation with Father Cocco’s help finalizing the location.
Fish Fry #1 – 3/14/14
Thanks to Fran Sarro’s daughter Loretta, we have some great pictures from our first fish fry of 2014 on 3/14/14. Thanks Loretta!!! 536 people attended this dinner and 540 attended the next dinner on 3/28/14. Lots of smiling faces. Thanks to all volunteers who worked so hard to give the parish a terrific Lenten event.
Soup’er Bowl Sunday Food Drive – 2/1/14 -2/2/14
Our knights and parishioners enjoyed a brief pause in the cold snowy weather to pitch in for the annual KofC Soup’er Bowl Sunday Food Drive at Masses on 2/1/14 – 2/2/14. All food and financial contributions go to the St. John the Beloved Parish Outreach Food Pantry. Thanks to the event chairman Joe Fassano and his family and the knights who volunteered their time and energy to work the event. Thanks also to SJB Youth Group for their help collecting food at the 5:00 p.m. Mass and sorting the food afterwards. Most importantly, thanks to SJB Parish for donating the food items that help those in need.
SJB KofC Christmas Dinner Party – 12/29/13
Despite moving the dinner to the snow date, there was a great turnout for the 2013 Christmas Dinner Party. Many knights and their ladies were on hand to congratulate Knight of the Year Kevin Duffy and his wife Lois and Family of the Year Joe and Joan Fassano. Although Joe and Joan’s children were not in attendance, Maggie, Bridget, Joseph and Brynn
have all been regular helpers at our council events. All enjoyed the venue at Cavalier’s Country Club and the meal provided by Bella Vita.
UD Football Parking Assistance – 9/21/13
While some of the SJB KofC crew is directing traffic in the soccer field lot 9, these guys are selling tickets at Gate E near the Girl Scouts Parking Lot. Weather has
been beautiful at all the home games this season, up to this point. On this date though, the beautiful weather only held out until game time. Then the
rain started to pour. The good news is UD won 49-9 over Wagner.
Delaware State Council Picnic – 8/18/2013
Councils from around the state of Delaware assembled for the annual family picnic at St. Anthony in the Hills just over the state line in PA on Route 7. The weather was perfect, the event was well attended, and many acquaintances were renewed. Although this year’s celebration was without the familiar presence of Father Philip Siry and Father Roberto Balducelli, the knights continued the tradition. Prayers were offered for Father Siry, our State Chaplain of 20 years, and a memorial picture of Father Roberto greeted us as we entered the pavilion. Debbie and Dan Petrucci were Mr. and Mrs. Lucky for the day, walking away with several of the auction prizes.
2013-2014 Officer Installation – 8/1/2013
District councils held their officer installation at St. John the Beloved Church with a Mass concelebrated by Father Idongesit Etim (Associate Pastor of SJB Church), Father John Hynes (Pastor of St. Catherine of Siena Church), and Father Christopher Coffiey (Associate Pastor of St. Mary of the Assumption Church). A reception was held in the school library immediately following the installation Mass. Dignitaries present were State Deputy Gerry Safranski and his wife Judy, State Treasurer Barry Swain, Past State Deputy and State Membership Director Jim Gardner, and District Deputy Mark Goldberg. Thanks to Ann & Bill Matt, Bill Marino, Kevin Duffy, Pablo & Ileana Nogueras, Guy Boniface and Valerie Oldiges for pitching in to do reception set-up and clean-up. Pablo Nogueras was installed as Grand Knight of SJB Council as well as his 2013 – 2014 team of officers.
Scrapbooking Event – 6/15/13
The Scrapbooking Saturday keeps growing and this was the biggest success to date. With well over 40 people spreading out their craft over tables throughout the hall, some gorgeous works of art were created. Scrapbookers were able to share ideas, buy and trade supplies, and enjoy a terrific day doing the hobby they love. This event ran from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and most stayed to the very end. Thanks to Deen Mahoney for organizing this event, and to the kitchen crew (Ceil Mahoney and Deen’s Aunt Pat) for making the wonderful meals that kept the scrappers energized.
Tootsie Roll Drive – April 27-28, 2013
Pictures from annual collection for people with intellectual disabilities. The weather was beautiful and the parish was very generous as always. Thank you to all who stayed after each Mass handing out Tootsie Rolls and collecting for this worthy cause. $696.44 were raised.
Fish Fry #3 – 3/15/13
These pictures show the calm before the storm. This is what a busy crew looks like, in their cool new Fish Fry T-shirts, preparing for the rush. Give
yourselves a hand. You just served 1500+ dinners!!! Another great year. It’s hard to imagine that we have done this now for seven years. It seems like just yesterday that we started cooking and serving Fish Fry Dinners during Lent. Thanks to all volunteers who worked so hard to give the parish a terrific Lenten event.

Please extend your congratulations the next time you see Pablo.
Fish Fry #3 – 3/30/12
See pictures of the kitchen prep, set-up, the big rush, and the clean-up on 3/30/12. What a finish to a great year of fish fry dinners. Thanks to each and every volunteer who worked so hard to give the parish a terrific place to assemble before our church’s Stations of the Cross. Each dinner during this Lent surpassed the records set in previous years. That is a terrific vote of approval from our parish. Thanks also to those who have submitted ideas for continuously improving this event.
Fish Fry #1 – 3/2/12
See pictures of the set-up folks getting ready for the big rush on 3/2/12. As it turns out, they had no idea what awaited them. This fish fry dinner was largest turnout to date with an estimated 550 people in attendance. This eclipsed the old record by nearly 100 people. Thanks to all volunteers that pulled us through this one. It was very hectic to say the least.
